Frequently asked questions

  • Early support has been identified as being most beneficial for children, in order to support a child with any areas of difference before they may begin to impact their social skills or learning.

Depending upon the level of engagement and area of difference, support can be offered as early as around the 18 months - 2 year age.

If you are unsure however, please do get in touch and we can discuss whether therapy may be appropriate.

  • If you have concerns about your child’s speech, language or communication skills, please see our For Parents page where you will find a skills checker.

If you are at all unsure, please get in touch and we are happy to talk through your query and help you to decide if support at this time is required.

  • Sessions are designed to be very flexible and are adapted to the child at that particular time.

Time spent discussing areas of input / support / difference with Parents or Teachers can be very useful and may be more appropriate at that time than direct work with the child.

  • For most children, having the parent present is recommended as it allows for you to see the approaches used and allows their therapist to model areas/skills that Parents can be working on at home, in order to get the optimum from the therapy support.

For children who are at school, it may be felt that sessions in school are more appropriate. In this case, feedback is always provided so that Parents are involved and informed in order to support their child at home.

  • The initial assessment session tends to be around 1 - 1.5 hours long, which includes some direct work with the child and time for feedback/ discussion.

Follow-on sessions are around 45 minutes to an hour.

  • The frequency and type of support will vary depending on the child’s area of difference, age, and engagement level.

This will be discussed and agreed during the initial assessment.
